Jeannette L. Van Horst is a senior associate with Taylor Blessey LLP. She worked as an R.N. for many years before attending law school, and throughout her legal career she has defended physicians and hospitals in all medical specialties. She has arbitrated four cases to award, and tried one jury trial, as well as second-chaired multiple high-damage cases. Ms. Van Horst’s current focus is hospital defense. She is a graduate of the Los Angeles County Bar Trial Advocacy Program and is certified to try pro bono misdemeanor cases for the Los Angeles County City Attorneys’ office.
Ms. Van Horst received her J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1993. While in law school, she competed nationally in the Moot Court Honors Program. Ms. Van Horst passed the California Bar in 1993 and practiced medical malpractice defense at another firm until she joined Taylor Blessey in 2006.
Ms. Van Horst was born and raised in Los Angeles. She received her B.S. degree in Nursing in 1976, and her School Health Services Credential in 1981 from California State University, Fresno. Ms. Van Horst obtained her M.S. degree in Nursing from California State University, Los Angeles in 1987.
Ms. Van Horst is committed to risk management for health care providers, and is a frequent speaker at various Southern California hospitals and organizations, including the California School Nurse Association and the American College of Legal Medicine. She is on the Alumni Board of Directors of Southwestern University School of Law, and is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and the Southern California Association of Hospital Risk Managers.
